Privacy Policy

Gaze is a macOS app that magnifies your screen locally. This policy explains what data we handle, why, and what we deliberately do not touch. It applies to the Gaze app and the gaze.iney.app website.
The short version
Gaze runs on your Mac. What you magnify, freeze or draw on never leaves your device. We hold license information and a small activity history to understand whether downloads lead to working installations and to help with activation issues.
What stays on your Mac
Everything you see through Gaze – the magnified screen, frozen frames, your annotations and exports – is captured and processed entirely on your device. Your screen is never recorded to our servers, never uploaded, and never transmitted to us or any third party. We do not collect screen content, keystrokes, feature usage or session recordings.
What we collect
- Email address – collected only if you purchase Gaze Pro. It is tied to your license so you can activate Pro and restore it when you move to a new Mac.
- Purchase and payment data – handled by our payment provider, Lava.top, which acts as merchant of record. Lava.top processes your payment and passes us the details needed to issue your license (such as your email and order reference). We never see or store your full card number or card security details.
- Website visits – we record a random browser ID, a random visit ID, approximate country from our hosting provider, browser language, broad device/OS/browser type, referring hostname, approximate active time, how far down the page you scrolled, which page of this site you arrived from, whether Download was clicked and which button it was, and whether the checkout window was opened. The browser ID lasts up to 90 days, allowing repeat visits to be grouped. Active time excludes hidden tabs and periods without interaction; it is an estimate, not a recording. We record the path of a referring page only when it is a page of this site; for outside referrers we keep the hostname alone. We do not store the full user agent, URL query parameters, raw IP addresses or precise location in activity records. You can disable optional website measurement below. Browser privacy signals (Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control) also disable it.
- Download requests – when you click Download, we record the time, app version, referring website hostname and a random browser ID stored locally for up to 90 days. This measures download requests, not completed transfers. Direct downloads and blocked requests may not be counted.
- Checkout attempts – when you enter your email and we create a payment link, we record that order reference, the email, the amount and currency, any promo code, and whether it was later paid or refunded. If website measurement is enabled, the record also carries the random browser and visit ID, so we can tell how many people reach the payment page and how many complete it. We keep unpaid attempts: they tell us where checkout fails, and we may email you once about an unpaid order to ask what went wrong. That is a single message about that order, never marketing, and a reply is entirely optional. Payment itself happens on Lava.top, not here.
- App diagnostics – at launch, once a day while it is running, within an hour after new use, and when the display setup changes, Gaze reports a random installation ID, Gaze and macOS versions, Mac model identifier, chip type, and active display resolutions, scaling and built-in/external status. We keep the last received configuration and time, plus a history of version and configuration changes. Repeated identical reports only refresh the last-seen time and do not add history rows. We do not collect hardware serial numbers or display names. Since Gaze 2.7.12 diagnostics are always on and the app has no switch for them; an earlier “Share diagnostics” opt-out no longer applies. To object, contact us (see Your rights). Debug builds do not send diagnostics.
- Usage statistics – with the same diagnostics, Gaze reports whether Screen Recording and Accessibility access are granted, the license state (trial with days left, free or Pro), whether setup was completed and Launch at Login is on, and daily counts of how many times zoom, spotlight, pointer, freeze, pin, drawing and export were used, how many times Gaze was launched and how many times the Pro offer was shown. Counts are kept per calendar day for the last week on your Mac. We never collect what is on screen, what you draw or type, window titles or which apps you use.
- Crash reports – if Gaze ends unexpectedly, the next launch reports the same random installation ID, Gaze and macOS versions, the crash signal or exception type, the macOS termination reason, and the topmost function name inside Gaze's own binary. We never send the crash log itself, file paths, memory contents, or frames from other software. Debug builds do not send them.
- Optional download linking – clicking “Installed? Open Gaze” links that download with the installation that opens it. The linking token expires after 7 days. After a verified Pro activation, the linked installation and browser visit history can be associated with your license email. We do not match people by IP address or fingerprint their hardware.
- Activation history – we keep the activation/deactivation time, random device ID and device name supplied during license activation. Licensing records are required for the license to work.
- Basic website logs – like most websites, gaze.iney.app may record standard request data (IP address, browser type, timestamps) for security and to keep the site running. We do not use this to build advertising profiles.
How we use your data
- To issue, deliver and restore your Gaze Pro license.
- To send license-related email (your sign-in code and receipt) and to answer support requests you send us.
- To understand website visits and download requests, diagnose installation, update, display, permission and activation issues, and see whether installed copies are actually used and which features matter.
- To detect and prevent fraud and abuse, and to meet legal and accounting obligations.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising.
Who we share data with
We share the minimum necessary with the providers that make Gaze work:
- Lava.top – payment processing as merchant of record.
- Supabase – stores licensing and activity records. Our activity tables do not retain raw IP addresses; short-lived salted request keys help limit abuse. Hosting providers may separately keep operational request logs.
- Vercel – hosts our website and app downloads.
- Our email provider – to deliver your sign-in code and receipt.
These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms and privacy policies. We may also disclose data where required by law.
Permissions Gaze requests
On your Mac, Gaze asks for Screen Recording (so it can magnify what is on screen) and Accessibility (for global hotkeys and click remapping). These macOS permissions are used only to make the app function. Gaze does not use them to collect or exfiltrate your data.
Retention
We keep your license email and order record for as long as your license is valid, and afterwards only as long as needed for support, accounting and legal obligations. Download and installation activity is retained for product measurement and support until no longer needed or you request deletion. Turning off optional website measurement stops future website reports; it does not automatically erase earlier records. Operational website logs follow our hosting providers’ retention settings.

Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these, or to request deletion of your license email, contact us and we will help. Note that deleting your license email may make it impossible to restore your Pro license later.
Children
Gaze is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under the age required for consent in their country.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and revise the effective date above. Continued use of Gaze after a change means you accept the updated policy.
